Mary Beth Smith is a seasoned trial lawyer who represents clients in complex disputes in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. Her practice spans commercial litigation, employment disputes, tax controversy, land rights, professional malpractice, business torts, and insurance coverage litigation. Before joining the firm, Mary Beth served for more than a decade as a trial attorney with the United States Department of Justice, where she handled high-stakes tax disputes nationwide on behalf of the federal government in federal court. She served as lead counsel on numerous trial teams and helped secure one of the Department’s largest civil FBAR (Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts) penalty judgments. Her government experience informs her approach to investigations, regulatory disputes, and other complex civil matters, and allows her to guide clients through sophisticated litigation with clarity and confidence. Prior to her tenure at the Department of Justice, she practiced at a boutique litigation firm in Maryland for almost a decade, representing clients across a broad range of civil disputes.
