Garfield & Hecht, P.C. Attorney Selected for Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training Program

Garfield & Hecht, P.C. attorney Chris Bryan was selected as one of 20 attorneys statewide in the 2017 class of the Colorado Bar Association Leadership Training (COBALT) program. Mr. Bryan was chosen out of hundreds of applicants to participate in the six-month program, where he met and interacted with leaders from the bar, judiciary, and all branches of state government, including Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Nancy Rice and key legislators from both parties. Mr. Bryan graduated from COBALT in June 2017.

COBALT is a highly regarded interactive leadership training program designed specifically for lawyers with demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to the legal community. Not only are class members taught leadership skills, they also learn how to address challenges faced by leaders in the legal community and the general community. The program’s goals include: nurturing effective leadership with respect to ethical, professional, and community service issues; building relationships among legal leaders from across the state and from across experience levels; and raising the level of awareness among lawyers regarding the broad range of issues facing the legal profession.

Mr. Bryan is now in his second year of a 3-year term as a representative of the Colorado Bar Association (CBA) on the Board of Directors of the Continuing Legal Education in Colorado, Inc. (CLECI). The CLECI Board oversees and manages certain continuing legal education activities in Colorado and includes representatives from both the CBA and the Denver Bar Association. CLECI’s mission is to provide an organized, sustained, and affordable program of continuing education for the Colorado legal profession to benefit lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals as well as members of the public who are served by the legal profession.

Mr. Bryan is also in his fourth year of representing the Pitkin County Bar Association to the Board of Governors of the CBA. The Board of Governors is the governance arm of the CBA; it evaluates and adopts policies affecting the tens of thousands of licensed attorneys throughout Colorado. The CBA assists members in improving practice quality, economics, and efficiency; protects and promotes the state’s justice system; and enhance public confidence in the legal profession.

Mr. Bryan’s past leadership roles in the CBA include his serving as the state-wide Chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. He also has served on the Colorado Bar Association’s Executive Council and on the Board of Governors in 2006-2007. He has served two terms on the CBA Budget Committee and the CBA Nominating Committee. He has also been a member of the Joint Judicial Task Force, coordinated by the CBA. He formerly served on the CBA President’s Strategic Planning Coordinating Committee, which formulated and executed short- and long-term goals for the CBA. Mr. Bryan is a past president of the Pitkin County Bar Association in Aspen.
